Abstract

This article explains the importance of qasida, a classical genre of Urdu, Persian and Arabic poetry. The article writer claims that Abu Muhammad Sahr has unrivalled reputation in doing tremendous job about the genre in Urdu.In the article, the article contains information about qasida in Arabic language and its principles. The genre of qasida in Persian was initially influenced by the Arabic language and later on the Persian poets experimented in the form. The article contains a detailed account titled, monisul ahrar fi daqaiqul ashaarby Muhammed bin Badr Ja Jarmi who compiled the works of 187 poets of qasida in his work for which he wrote 14 chapters carefully divided with reference to their topics and beauty of their expression.
