Abstract

This article aims at highlighting importance of Principles of Literary Criticism by I A Richards in relation to Urdu translations and their practitioners such as Dr Jamil Jalibi, Hilal Ahmed Zuberi, Dr Mirza Hamid Beg. Almost all Urdu translators advocated a faithful and fluent translation. Dr Mirza Hamid Beg criticises all the Urdu translators as they produced simple target text, but they should have translated the source texts the way it was written to improve the stylistic beauty of Urdu prose. Beg pointed out that Urdu has no capacity to produce long and complexed sentences. The article shows tendency of Urdu translators who did not follow the linguistic style of the source text. Experimenting to follow the source text style, the article writer translates the text. Translating terminologies is a nightmare for every translator for which the writer uses the terminologies of the source text except for a few terms.
