This article presents renowned Urdu poets of the form of quadrant spanning from the Dakni period to date for which a good number of quadrants quoted to analyze how the very form of poetry presents a wide range of topics such as classical, romanticism, social, political, melancholic, sorrowful and ethical moods etc. Quli Qutub Shah has been reckoned to be the first Urdu poet to use this form to present love themes. On the other hand, Siraj Orangabadi used the form to express his melancholic and sorrowful moods. Mir Taqi Mir also used the form to present his many inner feelings. The poets hailing from Dehlavi school of thought including Mirza Ghalib, Zuaq, Zafar, Momin, Sheefta depicted their sentiments using it but Momin was one of the rare examples among his contemporaries who used the form of quadrant frequently. Known Marcia poets Anees and Dabeer presented ethical themes. Altaf Husain Hali, Ismail Merathi, Akbar Ilahabadi and Shad Azeemabadi presented religiously motivated themes. The article quoted many contemporary poets who used quadrants as a vehicle for presenting their feelings.
