Abstract

This article presents the unpublished letters and emails of the noted critic, poet and fiction writer Shamsur Rehman Faruqi sent to Dr Shams Badayuni. The letters were presented in two sections. The first section has 13 letters and the other section has 04 letters emailed. The first letter dated 20 September 1989 and the last was written to him on 6 June 2020. The letters provide an interesting opportunity to their readers to see the terse remarks of Mr Faruqui on many literary fronts. The letter writer avoided to write forward and flaps on books as he had many bitter and deplorable experiences from it. Mr Faruqi clarified in response to Dr Badayuni’s critical understanding on Maulana Shah Aasi Sikandarpuri, Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi and Allama Iqbal that they were more knowledgeable than him (Dr Badayuni) as far as Hadith and Fiqh are concerned. Mr Faruqi deplored that we are still enjoying one’s weakness as Ameen Zuberi defamed Shibli Naumani.
