Abstract
This article aims atgivinga detailed historical account of severe Bangal famine in 1943 and how it portrayed in Urdu poetry.In the beginning of the article, the brutal policies of British government towards the very region were discussed which led it to experience the worst kind of famine. It also explained that the financial motives were behind the British policies as it was dubbed Shonadesh (The Land of Gold).The article recorded many voices from Urdu poetry against the famine. The poets of Urdu used many genres for expressing their feelings the criticized the very disaster in their poetical accounts. The history and the poetry are on the same page to highlight the issue. Abstract
This article aims at providing a brief account of Jalianwala Bagh massacre and its touching portrayal in Urdu poetry. The sad incident took place in 1919. Many known Urdu poets were alive then to witness the incident and shared their feelings how and who was responsible for the incident. Akbar Ilahabadi was one of the greatest names among the Urdu poets who composed his verses to condemn the incident. The article includes many known and little known poets who expressed their displeasure over the incident. The article recounts the testimony of the poets which remained true to the core of the tragedy. Urdu poets in their sentiments protested the English government and their representatives holding public offices in India then. Urdu poetry recounted many forms of tortures to Indian Muslims.
