Letter of Perveen Shakir, Forugh Farrokhzad, Persian language

Abstract

This article presents four unpublished letters of famous Urdu poetess Perveen Shakir (1952-1994) addressed to the author of the article, revealing her natural inclination towards learning the Persian language. She expressed her interest in learning the language using distance learning tools. It also shows how she rendered the Persian poetry of Forugh Farrokhzad in a reasonably good fashion. The letters sent to motivate her to Persian literature worked really well. In her work, titled, Khud Kalaami, she composed a poem in appreciation of Farrokhzad, an Iranian poetess of modern Persian poetry.  The article also discusses her calm demeanor in responding to the letters of the article writer. She avoided accepting many offers from the writer to receive old and new books of Persian literature. The handwriting on the letters is neat, legible, and cursive.
