Abstract

This article highlights the poetical works, Sarapa Sehrul Bayaan and Hasht Gulzar, by Husain Shah Haqiqat archived in the Lahore Museum. Following the directives of the Nawab Aitematudaulah, the former mathnavi was copied from the work of the poet which the poet corrected thoroughly. Its orthography is of old-fashioned. The old and new biographical studies carried out on the poet have nothing to discuss the work Sarapa except for the article written by Dr Gohar Naushai who mentioned that the Karachi-based noted scholar Mushfiq Khawaja had it in its personal collection. It is interesting to note here that the manuscript owned by Khawaja had an stamp of Iranian journalist and parliamentarian Istewan Tehrani’s personal collection of books. It is expected that Colonel Khawaja Abdul Rasheed, known for his work, titled, Tazkira-e Shura-e Panjab wa Tazkira-e Taalib Aamli (Biographies of the Panjab’s poets and Biography of Taalib Aamli), might have obtained it from the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran, Iran where he spent sometime as a Military Attaché. Colonel Rasheed was a cousin of Mushfiq Khawaja who may have had it from him. Colonel Rasheed gave his personnel collection of the manuscripts to the Lahore Museum.
