Abstract
The article explains the conception of Islami Bazaar (Islamic Market) shared by an Urdu poet, noted editor and political figure Maulana Zafar Ali Khan persuading the Muslims of the undivided India to buy 75% of their groceries and other items of need from Muslim businessmen and the rest from others. The conception was meant to uplift the economic wellbeing of Muslims as they were then economically backwards. Maulana Zafar Ali Khan held public gatherings and offered to devise a system to encourage the Muslims to pay heed to it. In his public meetings, he shared the teachings of the holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as he encouraged his companions to do tijarat (business) as 9/10 of income can be derived from business. Maulana supported the concept not only in his some of the talks and travelled to some parts of India to persuade the majority to Muslims. The concept of Maulana was received by the majority of Hindus as an attack on their economic conditions and they criticized him whether he was for the India or against.
