Abstract
This article aims atgivinga detailed historical account of severe Bangal famine in 1943 and how it portrayed in Urdu poetry.In the beginning of the article, the brutal policies of British government towards the very region were discussed which led it to experience the worst kind of famine. It also explained that the financial motives were behind the British policies as it was dubbed Shonadesh (The Land of Gold).The article recorded many voices from Urdu poetry against the famine. The poets of Urdu used many genres for expressing their feelings the criticized the very disaster in their poetical accounts. The history and the poetry are on the same page to highlight the issue. The poets also depicted the sufferings of human being particularly women and children.Read More →
