Abstract
This article highlights the contents of the books, titled, Opendranath Ashk, by Dr Gyan Chand Jain, documenting the life and works of Ashk. The book actually recognizes the contribution of Ashk in various genre of Urdu literature such as dramas, poetry, short stories and novels. Waris Alvi one of the critics of Urdu widely known for his pungent remarks has appreciated the short stories of Ashk. Askh is not reckoned to be the mainstream Urdu short story writers. The article reveals some of places of the life account of Ashk in the book are covered without the evidence quoted though the writer of the book Dr Jain is a renowned researcher of Urdu literature and language. Dr Jain used to meet him time and again but the things discussed without referring the source will remain un-accepted by the readers in general and scholars of Urdu in particular.Read More →
